Cruise Ship Destination

Generally, Cruise Ships allow 4 - 6 hrs to visit Grand Bahama.  Cruise lines like Carnival & Norwegian come into the Freeport Harbor (See Map).The Freeport Harbour is currently being upgraded and can only accommodate one large cruise ship at a time, so it’s not a busy port. Our website also has a list of shops and food vendors at the Freeport Harbor.

Ferry / Cruise

We do have a small ship, the Discovery Cruise Line which is more like a ferry, which comes everyday except Wednesday.  This vessel departs from Port Everglades (Ft. Lauderdale, Fl) and it can carry up to 1,100 guest and has some cabins.  It also includes entertainment, casino and meals.  Offers a Day Cruise (you are on island from 1:00 pm to 4:30pm).  Or stay as many nights as you like.  Packages for sail & stay are available. The Discovery also docks at Freeport Harbor, but not next to Straw Market and stores that the larger cruise ships have access to. However, taxis will be happy to take you wherever you want to go.

Personal vessels

The Bahamas Yachting experience is renowned the world over. Only 56 miles from Florida to West End, hundreds of personal vessels visit Grand Bahama each year and we are the first port for Bahamian customs & immigration clearance.   Port Lucaya Marina has a customs office located on property from 9:00am – 9:00 pm.  ALL marinas on Grand Bahama can call for the proper authorities.  You MUST clear customs & immigration BEFORE anyone disembarks from the vessel.    Ideal for boat company parties or the friends meeting on the island - Several marinas have dockage & resort accommodations. They will even help with mini or full scale fishing tournaments. 

Flights / Airlines

There are many commercial flights that come.  Some of the planes are small but they have hourly flights, which is great.  A few are American, Delta, Continental, Spirit, U.S. Airways and the national carrier is Bahamasair.
